QUANDER HISTORICAL SOCIETY, INC.
Periodically updated
The Quander Historical Society, Inc., was founded by Rohulamin Quander, Esq., in Washington, D.C., in 1985. Its mission is to: a) collect, document, and preserve the legacy of the Quander Family; b) conduct additional family history research on the Quander Family, and to assist (Above photo - Susie Russell Quander stands on the lawn at George Washington's Mount Vernon Plantation, overlooking the Potomac River, c1932) other persons and organizations to do the same, with regard to their families; and c) educate both within the Quander Family and beyond, by sharing the information learned, serving as a bridge to both the past and the future.
Rohulamin Quander began collecting Quander-related documents in the 1960s. A non profit corporation, the Society enjoys a 501 (c)(7) tax exempt status. The objective of the Society is to educate not only the members of the family, but the community at large about the distinguished and unique history of the Quander Family, as one of the oldest consistently documented African-American families in the United States. The family's documented history began with the 1684 Last Will and Testament of Henry Ad(d)ams, a colonial legislator, who resided in Charles County, Maryland.
